A fabulous pair of vintage snake drop earrings made by Smith & Pepper in 1961. The pair depict two serpents with a coiled, elasticated body and an engraved tail and head, dotted with pink ruby eyes. Both are fashioned in 9ct gold and fitted with butterfly stud tops.
Smith & Pepper was founded by Mr. Smith and his Uncle Mr. Pepper who were based in the Birmingham Jewellery quarter from 1899 to 1981. They were renowned for their high-quality jewellery, most notably Egyptian themed snake designs, which grew in popularity after the discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922.
An eye-catching pair, in excellent condition and complete with the maker’s mark and Birmingham hallmarks on the reverse.
We recommend you insure for £1,500. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
